Fear (2)

“The more you can increase fear

of drugs and crime, welfare mothers,

immigrants and aliens, the

more you control all the people.”

                                   Noam Chomsky

Exploitation of Fears

The exploitation of fear to gain control is an age old technique that was used throughout history. It has been exploited by those who have no plan to further the dignity and goals of the population, but only wish to use the power that such control generates to further their own aims. This process of exploitation has been used recently by President G. W. Bush to gain approval for the Iraq war, using the fears generated by 9/11 and a series of lies about ‘weapons of mass destruction’ that did not exist, and were known to not exist, to generate more fears, to make a war on someone he believed was responsible for the humiliation of his father.

The result today was the rise of the ISIS cult that is being used today to generate more fears and the attempt to gain more control of our country. Thus once again fear generated more fears, and the cycle continues, unless we call their bluff and live up to the code of our country and constitution, and our belief in a merciful God Who is Love, only Love: “The one who does not Love does not know God, for God is Love.” (1 John 4:8)

Isolation and war is not Love

The answer being promoted by the fears is to abandon the lives of refugees and let them die, just like we did to the Jews in 1938 when we turned back a ship with about a thousand Jews on board, forcing them to return to Germany where they and tens of thousands of others who were refused entry into our country were put into the concentration camps and certain death, “because there may be German spies in their midst”. We, as citizens of this country that refused them, are responsible for the abuse and death of those people as we placed them in harm’s way by refusing to granting them safety. And now we are doing something similar; decrying the efforts to help just a handful (when compared to the hundreds of thousands of refugees that are present) because of fear that is being exploited; even down to stating: “I don’t think that orphans under five should be admitted to the United States at this point.”, according to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

So the choice is to be a person of the faith we proclaim or live the life of a coward; to turning our backs on the beggar and the ‘one set upon by robbers’ or live the life that Jesus talked about.

What is our choice? Do we dare to live the life that God has beckoned us to live or live the life of the world and walking away from the Life that proclaims the words of God?

Each of us has to face their own inner being and decide what is the right thing to do for themselves. I know I have to speak out, if I do not speak out the very stones at my feet will cry out to me in my failure.

I will talk more on this.

“I believe that every single

event in life happens in an

opportunity to choose

love over fear.”

                          Oprah Winfrey

Questions to Ponder

What does your soul say to your inner being about the refugee crises? Can we, the strongest nation on earth, turn our backs on their cries for help?

Does this world crises require a different approach to reduce the world fears other than by fanning the fires of hatred and fear?

Meditation

Oh my Wisdom, you who sent Jesus to show us the way to face hatred and fear by standing firm in what is right, strengthen our will to aim for justice; not by just sending our young people to die for us but by approaching the task through the eyes of love. We know this is a time for change, what we have been doing is not working, and we submit ourselves into Your Being of Love to find a solution that will lead to peace rather than death. We ask for openness, knowing that You will send the way, if we but listen. Give us the peace in our hearts that will shine your Face on our world that is tired of war and destruction.
