God is Love (24)
1 John 4:8
Love always hopes (1)
1 Corinthians 13
Love survives on hope; that is, there is constant desire that the object of our love be joined with us in unity. So if God is Love, God should have hope; but the definition of ‘hope’ does not fit with the definition of God. The Merriam-Webster dictionary has several definitions of the word ‘hope’. The simple definition of hope is “to want something to happen to be true and think that it could happen or be true.”
A fuller definition of hope is (noun): “to cherish a desire with anticipation” and (verb) 1. “to desire with expectation of obtainment.” 2. “to expect with confidence.”
All of these definitions operate in the world of anticipation of a possible outcome of a future event, and our ’hoping’ that a given outcome may occur; but then, because this is only hope, there is a possibility that it may not occur. But God does not operate in the realm of “time”, but operates in the realm of “no-time”, that is, God is able to see all possible outcomes and choices, and understands fully our choices we make in the future and their series of events launched by our decisions, as the future and the past are all present to God at the same time. Now this does not mean that we have no choices in our realm of living in “time”, but God knows our choices, since the passing of “time” has no meaning to that Being we have called God.
However, God also deals with this universe, which means that God deals with us, in such a manner that the possibilities still are only possibilities from our viewpoint, that the decisions we make are truly our decisions, changing the outcome of the future as far as we are concerned, and the future we access with each decision.
So what does that term “hope” mean to God? As I see it (and these are strictly my thoughts as I have pondered this for a long time), the term “hope” to God has a totally different definition, as not being something of the future, but the acknowledgement of our desire for a specific outcome, and the encouragement given by God to each of us to successfully call forth our desires from the universe as we wish, by trusting in the power of God (or the power of the Universe, or whatever name one chooses for that “higher power”) to grant our desires, and fulfill our hope.
It is in our trusting in these powers that lie in our grasp that “hope” is transformed into present reality. Remember, Jesus said “But seek first the kingdom of God –and all these things will be given to you as well (Matt. 6:33 (ESV) ) God has given us the power to fulfill our hopes according to our desires, but has attached a little string to that power – we must “seek first the kingdom of God”, before the power of the universe is called forth. But more on this in the next posting.
Does God have a “hope” for humanity? In many ways the answer is Yes, for the surest way for humanity (read you and me) to respond to the call from God and reach ‘heaven on earth’, or a level of joy and happiness that is part of the Kingdom of God, is for sufficient numbers of humanity to begin to “seek first the kingdom of God” that would permit “all these things to be given to us”. I, for one do not fully understand that relationship and abilities of God in that past, present, and the future, and I am not sure if anyone on this side of the veil of transition can fully understand. We can make guesses, and I have some, but actual knowledge will have to wait until we pass into the next phase of existence.
I believe that God “hopes” that this level of humanity, during this phase of existence in our here and now, will thread it’s way through all the possible outcomes to reach the next level of where humanity is headed. Since God is present always, that is from our level of existence in time, God is present from the infinite past to the infinite future, all possible outcomes of these decisions exist, and I would certainly prefer to see the shortest route to see “The Kingdom of Heaven on earth” before we destroy all we have by spinning out of control – which route we will take remains to be seen. Both are possibilities, what the future holds is up to each of us, as we make decisions to raise the conscious level of humanity today and each day, or to lower that conscious level, as we thread our way through life.
“Clap you hands, all you nations;
Shout to God with cries of joy.
For the Lord Most High is awesome.”
Psalm 47: 1-2 (NIV)
Meditation
My Spirit, my Wisdom, my Joy, my Happiness: I rejoice in the freedom you grant us to choose, and it is my hope that humanity chooses freedom, love, and a path wherein the Kingdom of God can be found. I am deeply grateful for all that You have showered upon humanity, given us giddy glimpses of the untoward potential and joy that awaits us if we only follow that path that glows in our future. Let my heart open to the outpouring of Your Love in our world, and I place my being in Your grasp to do as You will. Help me to see how to be Your instrument each day, as my life crosses another’s life that You place in my path. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to know what to say, or is it better to say nothing at that moment. I am grateful for all the urges You supply that encourages me to respond with words gifted to that situation, and let me be Your mouthpiece where You have placed me.
If this posting proves useful to you, I would appreciate it if you would share it.
