The whisper of God

May 27, 2014

The Whisper of God is always present: the question is, do we hear it. The Eternal One is always ‘talking’ to us, but most of us don’t listen to the working of The Living One in our life. God’s whisper can take many forms, including internal thoughts, books of all types, newspapers, magazines, movies, television, a conversation, scenery, events, even a passing conversation.

Wisdom speaks to me most clearly through my wife, followed by the myriad of books that I read, both spiritual books and science books of many types, books from wonderful priests such as Diarmuld O’Murchu, and the many writers such as Deepak Chopra, but God has spoken to me most strongly recently through the revealing writings of the series of books called the Conversations With God, by Neale Donald Walsch.

Usually when we think of Wisdom talking to us, it is too often thought that it is only through the bible or some other proclaimed spiritual book that we can hear The Eternal One talking. Certainly The Living One speaks through these sources, but God speaks through other sources all the time. Even if we spend time reading the bible or recognized spiritual books daily, we miss at least 98% of the whispers of Wisdom that are placed in our path. The Eternal Wisdom will give us random thoughts, even dreams, striking scenes both beautiful and horrifying, and even common repetitive tasks, filling every moment of the day, every day, waiting to speak to us if we but listen.

We can learn to see God in all events, even the most seemingly non-God events, such as wars, murders, natural disasters, etc. God fills our universe, and is in all things seen and unseen. Our ego prevents us from seeing The Eternal Wisdom, masking our perception unless we release our hold on the self-centered part of our personality.

The Ego

We are made of three parts: body, mind, and soul; one being. Our ego is that part of our personality that our mind builds to prevent the joining of the soul to the rest of who we are, the mind and body. Our ego builds a persona that is not who we really are, but someone we imagine we would like to be. For a man it is usually a macho being, capable of wonderful physical events and powerful forces, to attract a woman and money. For a woman it used to be pretty and fluffy so to attract a man as just described, but now it is becoming more common to be strong and compete in a ‘man’s world’, what ever that is. All of these are false, not who we really are, for each of us are wonderful beings filled with the Spirit of God, able to do wonderful displays of Love. Our soul knows who we are, as our soul never forgets it is a branch of The Living One.

We have the words of Jesus that we are the branch, but do we understand the implications of those words of Jesus? Is a branch part of a tree? Of course it is. The sap of the tree runs from the roots up the trunk to the branch, and out to the twigs and all parts of the tree. If we can say that the branch is part of the tree, and be puzzled if someone claims otherwise, why is it that we have such a hard time to even talk about what Jesus was truly saying: we are part of the Tree of Life, carrying Life with its roots in the Trunk of The Living One, and are part of that Living One.

Breathtaking! We are a part of the Eternal Wisdom! Then why do we have such a difficult time understanding and, especially, feeling that message of Jesus? The answer is our ego plays the critical role of masking off our soul from our mind/body, our consciousness that forms the living being that is you or me. It would seem like the ego is something that The Eternal One made a mistake creating since it prevents us from connecting firmly with our inner being of The Living One, but The Living One does not make mistakes. The ego is essential to the mission we have accepted when we are here in this physical life.

Our Mission

Our mission: to experience the growth of Life and Love from being fully shielded by the ego to grow to be one who will eventually know and appreciate what we are: a Branch of The Eternal One, fully immersed as a functional part of the infinite being we call God. What a journey. The purpose? To be the experiential part of The Eternal Wisdom, fulfilling the need of not only knowing that we are part of The Living One, but experiencing that fullness as a growth of not knowing to knowing. God has made that clear in the Conversation With God series, time and again.

We are the experiential part of The Eternal Wisdom, moving from the unknowing to the knowing, feeling, and experiencing part of The Living One, the always evolving sequence played out by each soul, or Branch of the Vine of God. This discovery of the purpose of conscious life answered one of my wildest questions that I had for many years: Why is humanity here?

The Whisper of God is always present, always lying under our thoughts, encouraging each of us to lower the shield of our ego just a notch, to see the next layer of beauty around us, always. Our task is to take on the next version of the highest vision we can have for ourselves in this life, time and again.

Are we not drawn like the moth to the light by beauty? Each of us has our source of light, and that light is just right for where we are in the path of Life at this time. Yes, it may take many journeys of what we call Life to uncover more and more of our soul, that Branch of God that we call our own.

Our soul is in constant contact with the Vine, the trunk of what we call The Eternal One. Our soul has consciously chosen to be this experiential arm of Wisdom, giving birth to the living out of God’s Love. It was the choice of our soul to live this cycle of Life, for free will is always in play, and our soul has chosen this path for life in this here and now. Our task is always the same: to move closer to the visible living out of the Wisdom of The Eternal One, here, now, at this time and place. Our reward? Simply to find more Joy and Beauty in each moment. Each of us is like the most magnificent flower in the world. We are held in a tight bud at birth, with the task of unfolding our beauty into the world, day by day, never ending until we leave this world.

But what of those whose life appears to be anything but love? How does the rapist, the brutal thief who seems to take delight in frightening and terrorizing the victim, those who appear to have no awareness of Life and Love fit into this equation? At some time in our lives as God’s energizers, each of us, we have chosen that path of apparent evil. How does this fit into the vision of overall Love of God? Without the antithesis, there is no consciousness of Good, of Love, of Joy. Thus the polar opposites of Love are a necessity, in order to experience the joy of The Wisdom alive. We must experience the yin and yang, the good and the evil, to be able to know Joy for what it is, for without the bitter there is no sweet, and without the cold there is no warm.

Meditation

My Eternal Wisdom, you give us pain to enable us to experience joy, struggles to enable us to experience success, suffering to experience bliss. We thank you for your generosity to give us the opportunity to experience life in it’s fullness. Continue to open our hearts to your way, to see the joy in suffering, to see the wisdom in the ups and downs of this journey. We are grateful for the glimpses of the Eternal Kingdom that is within each of us, and will use these glimpses as guideposts into the eternal. Let us be open to the Whispers of God that pour through us, and we ask that you give each of us the wisdom to see the pathway into you Light.

  1. Pray this over people. What a blssieng it will be. Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJV)24 The LORD bless you and keep you; 25 The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.
